Nano-sized Alumina Powder

The CAM 9010 is a synthetic, nitrate stabilized, colloidal alumina monohydrate having unique particle characteristics. It is a white, relatively high density powder that is dust free and easy to handle. This chemically derived powder has extremely small ultimate crystallites that are elongated in shape and high purity. It has the ability to disperse to a nanoscale in aqueous media and also in a number of thermoplastic polymer systems using standard compounding/processing techniques and without the necessity of coupling agents. It contains chemically and physically bound water, which can provide fire retardant properties. Its applications can include reinforcement and reheology control for aqueous and organic systems including adhesives, sealants, coatings, composites and inks.

Cam 9010 is an effective gelling powder when mixed with very low levels of activator. In laboratory tests, a stable and reversible gel was attained with a 5% solids solution and very low levels of activator. Once set, the gel time will shear thin and will re-gel time after time.

In a 5 % solution and using magnesium sulfate, the ratio of activator to Cam 9010 powder was 6:100 parts by dry weight. Using calcium sulfate, the ratio was 2.5:100 parts by dry weight.

Product Properties

  • Controlled manufacturing yields lot to lot consistency, which gives consistent performance in all applications.
  • Particle integrity of finely dispersed nanosize “ rods” is maintained, allowing for maximum reinforcement and / or green strength properties.
  • Self-dispersing to nanoscale in polar solutions, typically without any treatments required.
  • Very low dusting and free flowing, grit free product.
  • Typically less than 5% moisture.
  • Contains chemically and physically bound water, most of which is retained under temperatures of 300º C.
  • Stirs in with low shear mixing in aqueous matrices.

Applications

  • Can be used to reduce or replace traditional thickeners.
  • Can be used in organic and inorganic systems.
  • Anti-setting, anti-sag properties can be improved when gel structure is formed.
  • Low yield point of gel structures allows for quick, easy flow under low shear conditions.
  • Ultra fine particle size can allow use in aqueous spray applications.
  • Can improve green strength of ceramic materials.
